The Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra is perfoming a string of free concerts this summer.
The symphony performed Wednesday at Central Park Plaza in downtown Valparaiso, and the park was packed. A performance was scheduled for Friday at West Beach in Portage.
Upcoming free concerts include:
— Saturday: Griffith's Central Park, 600 N. Broad St. Rain location is Griffith High School, 600 N. Wiggs St.
— Aug. 11: Hammond's Wolf Lake Pavilion, at Calumet and Sheffield avenues. Rain location is Calumet College of St. Joseph's Athletic Center, 2400 New York Ave., Whiting.
— Aug. 12: Schererville's Redar Park, on Austin Street, north of U.S. 30. Rain location is Lake Central High School.
Each concert is at 7:30 p.m.
Children are encouraged to attend an hour before each of these performance to play instruments brought by Plum Grove Music. The instrument garden provides an opportunity for children and adults to try their hand at playing an orchestral instrument.
